in 1888, james ensor painted his masterpiece Christ’s Entry into Brussels, 1889 depicting a crowd of misfits awaiting the messiah. eighty years later, bob dylan wrote his masterpiece desolation row. each of these are masterpieces in their own right, but when juxtaposed they enhance each other’s greatness. in 1999, the getty museum put out The Superhuman Crew–a book that places details of ensor’s painting alongside the lyrics of dylan. although, the two artists are from insanely different eras, their themes are eerily similar.
if you are an art lover and a dylan fan, you NEED this book in your collection. it’s wonderful.
